Gucci became a very successful company at the end of the 19th century. It became one of the world’s most successful manufacturers of high-end leather goods, and other fashion products. He was an immigrant in Paris and then in London and worked in exclusive hotels. Young Guccio Gucci was impressed with the luxurious luggage he saw urban guests bring with them. When he returned to his place of birth, Florence, a city distinguished for expert artesans and high-quality materials, he opened a shop in 1920 that sold fine leather goods with classic styling.
Initially, Gucci employed skilled workers in basic Florentine leather craft. Together with three of his sons, Lewis Risdale, Vasco Gucci, and Rodolfo Gucci, Gucci expanded the company to include stores in Milan and Rome as well as additional shops in Florence.
“I ouldn’t have cared less about Gucci when I first went there – but soon after I arrived I cared a lot.” Tom Ford.
